Both mortality caused by coronary disease and that originating from other emergency situations can be reduced if a series of actions are carried out, all of them important and which configure the so-called "Chain of Survival": immediate alert to a possible cardiac arrest, early initiation of basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation, early defibrillation, and finally, advanced life support in a few minutes.

VITAL MINUTES
We must bear in mind that the only therapeutic action capable of reverting ventricular fibrillation is defibrillation, that is, the application of an electric shock that restores the heart rhythm. And even more so if we consider that survival decreases by 7-10% every minute of delay in applying defibrillation, since the onset of the cardiac crisis.
The maximum time we have to resuscitate a person suffering a cardiac crisis is eight minutes. From then on, every minute you gain means between a 7 and 10 percent increase in survival. The key is to train non-medical personnel so they know how to respond in a quick and effective way when ventricular fibrillation occurs.
REGULATORY FRAMEWORK
- » Decree 151/2012, of November 20, by which the requirements for the installation and use of external defibrillators outside the sanitary field and for the authorization of training entities for this use are established.
- » Decree 30/2015, of March 3, by which the catalog of activities and centers obliged to adopt self-protection measures is approved and the content of these measures is fixed.
